IPSWICH/TAUNTON: A serial bigamist who fooled a doctor into giving her sleeping pills by dressing as a man has been spared jail.

Emily Horne, 33, – who tied the knot bigamously for a third time with Ipswich man James Matthews in 2002 – cropped her hair and wore a baggy football shirt and trousers to fool a doctor into believing she was her then partner Craig Hadwin.

At a previous hearing, Horne – formerly of Hervey Street, Ipswich, but now of Wells, Somerset – admitted two charges of fraud by false representation. She also asked for a further three similar offences to be taken into account. Horne was sentenced yesterday at Taunton Crown Court as Max Accastes Quiberon – the name she adopted by deed poll.

The former glamour model, who has been diagnosed with a personality disorder, made world headlines with her bigamist lifestyle, appeared in adult movies and was also the subject of a TV documentary.

Last year it was claimed she had married for a sixth time – an American she had met online.

Recorder Jonathan Barnes told Horne that he was not going to send her to prison despite being in breach of a suspended sentence imposed in Manchester in 2009 when she had admitted bigamy.

The judge imposed a 12-month community order with supervision and a 28-day electronically tagged curfew from 7pm to 7am.

The court heard that Horne – previously jailed for bigamy after never divorcing first husband Paul Rigby – fooled the unsuspecting GP during a consultation.

Prosecutor Nigel Askham said Horne had an extensive medical history including an addiction to prescribed painkillers. He also said that she had a history of using a string of aliases.

Horne was arrested on suspicion of fraud and when interviewed at Yeovil police station she admitted all the allegations against her.

In December she pleaded guilty at Yeovil Magistrates’ Court and was committed to Taunton Crown Court for sentence.

Horne’s web of lies started soon after she married her first husband, a soldier, when she was 18 in December 1996. Mr Rigby was posted abroad for five years and on his return he found out she had left him for banker Sean Cunningham, and they married in Leeds in February 1999. But Horne left him for website designer Chris Barrett, and the couple wed in December 2000.

West Yorkshire Police became aware of Horne’s serial marriages and cautioned her for two offences of bigamy in 2001.

But a year later she wed again – using her porn star name Amileannya Carmichael to marry rail guard James Matthews in Ipswich – and failed to get her previous marriages annulled.

The police were alerted and she was given a six-month jail sentence by Ipswich Crown Court.

But she married again when Ashley Baker became husband number five in September 2007 at a civil ceremony in Manchester.

But on their way to Scotland for the honeymoon, Horne revealed she was already married – and police were called in. She claimed she did not know if she was divorced because she no longer had the paper work.

Horne was given a ten-month prison sentence suspended for two years in Manchester in July 2009.
