VANDALS wrecking loos, parks and gardens around Felixstowe today have a 1,000 bounty on their heads.

Police are determined to catch the gang behind the attacks and now a reward has been put up to try and bring someone forward who knows the identity of the culprits.

Thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused this summer – with council taxpayers faced with footing the bill for repairs.

The reward – to be paid upon conviction of the offenders – has been put together thanks to a contribution of 500 from a Felixstowe organisation, 400 from The Evening Star, and 100 from a concerned resident.

Mayor Doreen Savage said: “I hope this will also make someone say, ‘Hey, I know the person doing this’ and come forward and do the right thing and tell the police.

“The organisation which has offered part of the reward wishes to remain anonymous and is hoping other organisations will join in to offer money.

“Like me, the organisation is sickened by the continuing vandalism and feels it is having a detrimental effect on the town.”

Mrs Savage thanked the organisation, The Star and the individual for putting up the cash.

“I believe someone knows who is causing this damage and hopefully this money will be attractive enough to make them come forward,” she said.

“There are so many similarities between a lot of the vandalism, especially the damage to the toilets, that it seems likely to be the same group.

“It would be great to be able to name and shame them – and even better if they could be caught and forced to clean up the damage.”

Toilets along the whole of the seafront have been targeted, with soap dispensers ripped off walls, doors smashed, and toilets blocked with loo paper and the lavatory blocks then flooded. Walls have also been smeared with excrement.

Windows have been broken in seafront shelters, flower displays wrecked, chalets damaged, and Langer Park left in a mess after a party.

Felixstowe and District Safer Neighbourhood Team has made the damage a top priority and stepped up patrols in key areas.
