IPSWICH: A Nacton scooter enthusiast was honoured when more than 80 riders created a procession on their bikes to and from his funeral.
After battling cancer for a year, father-of-two Philip Driver died in St Elizabeth’s Hospice on May 21.
The 58-year-old was a lifelong member of local scooter club Coasters and hundreds of friends attended his funeral at Seven Hills Crematorium yesterday.
Dozens of riders in a range of bikes and brightly-coloured helmets rode in memory of Mr Driver, affectionately nicknamed “Dapper” for his sartorial prowess. And one of his closest friends said he would have been “delighted”.
Karen Hill said: “It was a celebration of his life.
“I don’t think I will ever meet a person as special as Phil and you could tell how much he meant to everyone.
“I would say about 200 people were there.”
Following the service, a reception was held at the Gardener’s Arms pub which continued the celebratory atmosphere of the day.
Ms Hill said: “There were two DJs playing his favourite music and it was very difficult because we all loved him but I think everyone was just very happy that they had known a man as wonderful as Phil.”
