THE first flecks of snow have this morning been spotted in Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill and Lakenheath.
Until 10.30am west Suffolk had remained largely snow-free with the major towns remaining so far being reported clear of the white stuff.
In Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury at 9am, the skies were a pale blue colour and followed a spectacular deep pink sunrise. Other key areas such as Long Melford were also reported clear of snow as was Glemsford and Boxted.
But by mid morning, snowflakes began to meander downwards from the sky. Residents in Great Cornard, near Sudbury, have also reported a thin peppering of snow this morning.
At RAF Lakenheath, a thin dusting of snow was reported by base staff at 11am. Temperatures at the American airbase last night dipped to -5 degrees Celsius.
However, a spokeswoman for RAF Lakenheath said although “chilly” the conditions had not interfered with operations.
No problems have been reported on the area's roads, according to police.
