IPSWICH: A young boy has been reunited with his model glider after it was found lying in a tree top.

Six-year-old Jake Stedman was featured in The Evening Star two weeks ago after his glider disappeared from sight when it was caught in a thermal.

He had been flying his glider with his dad Julian from a field off Henley Road on October 18.

It was fitted with a CCTV device and the pair could only watch the images in dismay as the glider made its way across Ipswich.

After discovering that the missing glider had been found, Mr Stedman said: “I really just can't believe it.

“I didn't expect someone to be so kind and hand it in - Jake is so delighted.

“He was ready to save all his pocket money and Christmas money to buy another one.”

In an attempt to find the missing model, Mr Stedman ventured on a three mile walk around Playford, where the last images were recorded on the monitor, but nothing was found.

The glider was handed in to the Kesgrave Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) earlier this week after being found in a tree top in Martlesham.

PCSO Michael Sarbutts, of Kesgrave SNT, said “An officer came in earlier this week and saw the glider.

“He had seen an article in the Evening Star about the little boy and his missing glider - we all put two and two together and it turned out to be the one.”

Mr Stedman added: “I just can't believe it - I didn't think in a million years that it would ever show up again.

“I'd really like to find the person who handed it in so that I can buy them a nice pint.”
