A HAIRDRESSER has spoken of her frustration after her new salon was targeted in a smash and grab raid by a petty criminal.

Sheena Baker, of Koo Koo Hair Design in Melton, near Woodbridge, has only been at the premises in The Street for six weeks.

The alarm was raised by a neighbour who saw someone smashing the window of the salon and reaching in to grab what was on display.

Fortunately for Ms Baker that was just some dud GHD hair straighteners and a few salon brushes, which have since been recovered.

But the theft, which happened on Thursday, May 22 around 10pm, has left her feeling extremely annoyed.

Ms Baker, 51, said: “I just can't believe the mentality of some people. It's incredibly frustrating.

“The individual smashed a section of my bay window. Fortunately the glass did its job - it's reinforced so there was only a small hole. They had to reach in and grab whatever they could get without hurting themselves.

“They took 20 minutes to do it and all they got was some dummy GHDs and a big basket full of 20 brushes. It was a lot of effort for nothing at all.

“It's a pain because I've had to put in a lot of work to get on my feet. It's just extra hassle that I don't need.”

Ms Baker has just moved from other premises in Melton, where she has been based for nine years.

She expects the theft to cost her around 200 - the price of getting the window repaired.

“I just want to warn others,” she added. “At a time when a lot of people are struggling to make ends meet it could be very upsetting.”

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said the brushes had been recovered near to Ufford Football Club.

She said officers were hoping to trace two sets of people in relation to the offence.

“When the window was smashed two young men were seen running away towards Church View Close,” she said. “A short time later four men were seen to pull up outside in a brown/green car, possibly with a P registration. It looks like one of these took something from the window and then ran away.

“Officers have spoken to a number of people in the area but obviously we would be keen to trace any of the individuals.”
