MARLENE Wymer, of Frobisher Road, Ipswich, and Elizabeth Montgomery, who now lives in Gosport, recalled their childhood years in the late 1940s and 50s, growing up in a group of huts at the Ulster Avenue end of Bramford Lane, Ipswich.

The huts had stood there before the Whitehouse estate was built and were in a rural setting with families keeping several animals.

The site was outside the town boundary and children living there were pupils at Bramford School with most of them walking across the fields to school.

Paul Blowers, of Elmcroft Road, Ipswich, also lived there with his parents and brothers Leslie and Richard and sister Mary. They too kept animals including pigs, chickens and goats.

Paul can also remember riding to the Claydon blacksmiths in pony and trap.

Paul went on to be a pupil at Westbourne Secondary School and has sent me photographs of school sports teams he was in that will bring memories of life at the school from more than 40 years ago.
