More than 50 guests attended the launch of a new ornamental aquatics area at a ceremony held on the main college campus.
Among those helping to launch the new fishing facilities were mayor of Ipswich David Hale, Otley's chair of governors Bob Feltwell and college principal Philip Winfield, along with students and staff.
The aquatics area, sponsored by Seapets, will contain a wide range of coldwater and tropical fish.
Fish hatcheries will be used to cultivate and breed a large number of fish in an enclosed environment. Many of the fish will then be sold to local companies to raise cash for future college projects.
James Anderson, lecturer and project manager, said: “The area will be used for the training of students who want to gain employment in the ornamental aquatics industry.”
“All of the students played a part in creating the new zone and they should be very proud of their efforts.”
Students will learn all about aquatic feeding regimes, breeding strategies and aquarium installation for all common ornamental species of fish.
The new fish centre can be viewed at the college's family Big Day Out event that will take place on Saturday May 9, from 10.00am to 4pm.
