FIVE people have been killed in an accident on the M1 motorway in Bedfordshire.
Four people - two men and two women - died in a Jaguar which was in collision with a VW Passat. The Passat's driver also died.
It is believed the Passat, which was being driven by a man with a Polish passport, was travelling in the wrong direction in a section of the road which has several lanes closed because of roadworks.
Gary Sanderson from the East of England Ambulance Service said the five crash victims were ``quickly'' pronounced dead by the emergency services.
He said: “The cars were unrecognisable and there was nothing that could be done for the people involved. The debris is spread over quite a lot of the carriageway.”
