STANSTED Airport must be put up for sale and a new owner within two years, the Competition Commission has ruled.
Spanish-owned airport company BAA has been told it must sell Gatwick and Stansted airports as well as either Glasgow or Edinburgh airport.
It is hoped the sales will result in a better service for UK air travellers, provide more choice and potentially lower charges for airlines.
This could in turn lead to lower fares for passengers, some experts believe.
