STUDENTS from across the region joined a host of other local producers at a monthly farmers market by setting up their own stalls.
The pupils, who were taking part in the Young Enterprise company programme, were selling a number of products at Jimmy's Farm farmers market in Wherstead, including hand-painted and handcrafted bird boxes, wheat bags, personalised hoodies and seasonal craft items.
The Young Enterprise programme enables pupils to set up and run their own business for an academic year. The students are mentored by members of the business community.
The event was an opportunity to gear up for the Young Enterprise Company of the Year competition. The local finals will take place this week in Kesgrave, Southwold and Bury St Edmunds and then the six best will go through to the county final in May. Regional and national finals will follow.
Jenny Thomas, Suffolk Young Enterprise chairman, said: “Alumni of this programme have been proven to be twice as likely to go on to run their own businesses, which can only be good news for Suffolk.”
