FORMER Mayor of Ipswich Douglas Grimwood has died.
Mr Grimwood served for many years representing Chantry Ward for Ipswich Borough Council from the mid-70's to 1993, and as Mayor between 1983 and 84.
During his long career in local government he served as deputy leader of the council and chair of the housing committee.
A strong advocate of housing, his interest continued after he retired from the post. Housing was his main council interest and he made a major contribution to services across the town, as well as serving as a local school governor.
