Fast food chain KFC said it has "strict processes" on hygiene in place after videos of maggots at one its Ipswich restaurants emerged.

Clips shared on social media, which have been seen by this newspaper, showed dozens of bugs on the floor inside the eatery at Cardinal Park.

The company has said the maggots entered the restaurant via the roof and did not enter the kitchen area.

The area affected was closed and pest control teams were called in, KFC added.

According to the Food Standards Agency, KFC in Cardinal Park received the highest rating of 5 in its latest hygiene inspection from August 2018.

A spokesman for KFC said: "We have strict processes in place to ensure the quality and hygiene standards of all our restaurants and KFC Cardinal Park is no different.

"These bugs came in via the roof, did not enter the kitchen and the team immediately closed the area and called in pest control.

"The issue has been dealt with and the Environmental Health Officer has confirmed that they are happy with the measures we have taken and that this won’t be happening again."

KFC has two other restaurants in Ipswich, at Anglia Retail Park and in Felixstowe Road.
