An Ipswich rapper has admitted he thought video game bosses were pulling his leg when they told him one of his songs would be featured in FIFA 23.

Piers James' single 'Showbiz' is just one of 100 songs to be picked to feature on this year's edition of the hit football video game.

Mr James, who now lives in London, said: "It's incredible.

"I've worked so hard from just being a boy from Ipswich and really pushing myself and pushing myself to my limits, and time and time again being told you're not good enough.

"It's nice to know there are still wins out there, and there's still more to accomplish."

Showbiz now has more than 71,000 streams on Spotify and has been heard by gamers around the world.

Mr James continued: "We made the tune and instantly we thought it sounded like something they would have on FIFA, and luckily FIFA agreed.

"I got confirmation in September, and I was ecstatic, and I still didn't believe it until I was playing the game, I just thought they were pulling my leg."

Showbiz has gone on to become Piers' fastest-streaming song and has gained him international recognition.

"It is incredible to see the love and reaction to my song.

"It really feels like I am making a name for myself and people have told me that I am famous.

"I don't feel famous, I've still got the same people around me, still got my friends and family, still got the same stresses in life as anybody."

Mr James' son lives in Ipswich, so he often comes back to Suffolk.

He was also asked to support Ed Sheeran at one of the homecoming gigs at Chantry Park in 2019.

Mr James said: "That was a surreal experience.

"It felt like I had fast-forwarded my career, and seeing what it feels like to have 45,000 people sitting in front of you.

"Performing at that scale is something that has definitely cemented my belief in myself and my performance.

"The main thing I took from it was Ed Sheeran, with all his fame, was able to come backstage, say good luck, heard me perform and gave me a shoutout on stage.

"It felt like it doesn't matter what level you reach, whether you have sold the highest-grossing tour or not, the way he supported me and loved me, makes me think, I can do that for other people."
