An Ipswich family is promoting a book written by a mother-of-four before she died to raise money for a charity that supported them.

Denise Huk, who died in 2018, wrote a children's book called ‘You Can Have the World’.

Denise's mother, Hazel, has dedicated her time to bringing her daughter's book to life through illustrations.

The family has decided to print and sell the book in Denise's memory.

All the money from the book and online fundraising will be passed onto Group B Strep Support, which provided support to the family after Denise’s daughter, Cara, suffered from Group B Strep.

Chloe Huk, Denise's daughter, said: “My mum worked in a preschool and she wanted to give something to the children she knew. The book was a very personal thing to her.

“She absolutely loved working with kids, and they loved her.

“My grandma’s hobby is doing botanical drawings. She’s very good at it, so she decided to illustrate my mum’s book.

“Our hope is to sell as many copies of mum's book as possible, and to donate the proceeds to Group B Strep Support - a charity that mum was heavily involved with”

The 22-year-old woman from Ipswich added that her sister who was born in 2003 was infected with the streptococcal bacteria during birth and died after only four hours.

She said: “Ever since my mum did many little things to raise money for the charity. She organised raffles and coffee mornings, raising a few hundred pounds.

“From the sale of the book so far we've raised over £1,800.”

The book written by Mrs Huk describes the lives of little creatures who learn how to believe in themselves and work to make their dreams come true.

Chloe added: “One of the characters, Acorn, learns that even though it's small now, it will grow to be something big and important.

“The approximate age range for the book is 0-8 years.

“It is a lovely story for smaller as well as older children who can read it alone. I have also been told that adults have liked it, too.”
