An Ipswich man is excited to welcome the community to his new gym, a project five years in the making which offers a twist on traditional fitness.

Adam Lambert, 30, has just opened Top 3rd Fitness, a new gym in the Alston Court industrial estate in Leslie Road.

Mr Lambert is hoping that his new gym will offer a “win-win” strategy, matching potential clients with the trainers who can help them pursue their fitness journey.

Four personal trainers currently use the space, each with their own areas of expertise.

“It is different from a commercial gym, as the personal training sessions happen in a private setting. It’s just you and the trainer,” explained Mr Lambert.

Rather than applying for membership or simply turning up, clients can schedule time slots with one of the personal trainers via an app.

Mr Lambert continued: “We cater to all, from general fitness, to specific rehabilitation work, martial arts and personal training.” Sessions on self-defence are also offered.

Mr Lambert himself teaches Mauy Thai boxing. He believes that the benefits of fitness extend to emotional wellbeing, as well as physical health.

“I can train anyone, from someone going for a professional fight, right down to youngsters who are maybe slightly derailing and need someone who has walked their path to guide them in the right direction,” he said.

“I’m really intending to give back to the community, to people who are lacking the guidance they need. That can be channelled into fitness.

“I’ve been doing fitness for 15 years. Through every up and down in my life, fitness has been the thing that has enabled me to take a breath and ground myself.

“Finding peace in discomfort is something very unique and rewarding.”

The gym takes its name from Mr Lambert’s time in the military, for he spent almost four years serving in the Rifles regiment of the British Army.

“Top third is military terminology,” he said. “In everything you do, you have to be in top third to look for promotion. Whether it was fitness or shooting, that was where your eyes were.”

He had been hoping to set up Top 3rd Fitness for some five years, and is delighted that his dreams have finally come to fruition.
