An Ipswich woman will appear at court next year after being accused of driving whilst almost four times over the drink-drive limit.

At 9.35pm on Saturday, a member of the public who was a passenger in a car driving along Valley Road reported seeing a Nissan Micra run a red light at the junction with Henley Road.

The witness told police that they were travelling behind the car, which they alleged was being driven "erratically" towards Norwich Road.

The Micra was then seen to continue into Chevalier Street, before turning right into Bramford Road and coming to a stop nearby.

Officers arrived shortly afterwards and the driver was arrested and taken to Martlesham police investigation centre for questioning.

Joanne Clements, 52, of Hampton Road, Ipswich, was subsequently charged with driving with excess alcohol.

According to Suffolk police, she allegedly had 130mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - the legal limit being 35mcg.

She was also charged with driving without due care and attention and was bailed in respect of both alleged offences to appear before Suffolk Magistrates' Court on February 21.
