Fire chiefs are still investigating the cause of a large fire in an Ipswich home on Friday evening.

Emergency services were called to a mid-terraced home on Spring Road, near the roundabout with Woodbridge Road and Woodbridge Road East, at about 4pm.

No casualties have been reported as a result of the incident, but an ambulance crew was present alongside six fire engines.

An aerial ladder platform was also used to help tackle the blaze.

James Bryan, a neighbour and business owner on Spring Road, described the scene as "scary" and said the fire was "spreading fast".

"I first thought something was wrong when the power went out," he said.

"I stepped outside to see what was happening and all I could see was a blaze behind the windows.

"The fire actually melted the window frame and flames were billowing out.

"It was very scary. If emergency services didn't arrive when they did, the whole row of houses could have been taken out," he said.

A couple living very close to the home - who did not wish to be named - said they were unaware anything was wrong until they heard a "big bang" on the door.

"We didn't know anything about it," they said.

"All of a sudden we heard a big bang and a voice shouting 'out, out!'.

"We stepped outside and saw three fire engines and an ambulance."

Mr Bryan said one of the residents of the house had rushed outside and was banging on a neighbour's door to call for help.

"There was a lot of shouting and a lot of banging," he added.

"The emergency services were calling for us to leave our homes.

"I think one of the neighbour's homes has suffered some damage as a result of the blaze."

The property is understood to have been occupied by a couple who have now been moved to temporary accommodation.

Residents say they still have no clear picture as to what may have started the fire and Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service are believed to still be investigating the cause of the blaze.
