An Ipswich man has said he felt "honoured" to be asked to join members of the Royal family at Westminster Abbey for a Christmas carol concert.

David Gould, 71, was invited to attend The Together at Christmas service on December 15 , as a reward for his commitment and dedication to East Anglia's Children's Hospice.

Mr Gould has been volunteering for EACH since 2010 while also working three mornings a week in the charity's Meredith Road shop.

The service, which was dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth II, saw readings from both the Prince and Princess of Wales alongside a number of other famous faces.

"It was a very surreal experience to be sat just 20 yards away from the Royal family," said David, who was also joined by fellow volunteers Vanessa Moore and John Skoyles.

"We were right at the front and next to the choir.

"It was a beautiful experience and one that will live with me forever.

"Being there was a real honour and I’m extremely grateful to have been nominated and given the opportunity."

The service will be televised on ITV1 at 7pm on Christmas Eve.
