A mum-of-three from Claydon surprised her neighbours with festive post-box toppers.

Lisa Wylie has been decorating her village with beautiful toppers for the past year, crocheting among others, a tribute to the Queen and Remembrance Day decorations.

Her latest Christmas design greatly surprised her neighbours during the holiday period.

Mrs Wylie said: “What a project! I've lost count of the number of hours it took, but it was worth every minute.

“It is so wonderful to see what starts out as a sketch and a jumble of ideas become a 3D yarn-fest of what you envisioned.

“The topper was a full-on craft project using solar lights and a hot glue gun.

“I have read some wonderful messages on social media, but the poor little elf who lost the snowball fight seems to be the kids’ favourite.”

Mrs Wylie’s first project was made in tribute to the death of the Queen.

She then said: “It was the death of the Queen that spurred me to make my first topper.

“I wanted to make a tribute that the community could share. I was brave enough to try freehand crochet, where I worked without a pattern and just used the skills I've learnt and my own creativity.”

Her other projects included a Remembrance Day post-box topper which was located outside the One Stop on Norwich Road in Claydon - just a few steps away from the village's memorial.

Mrs Wylie said the topper has taken on an educational aspect, acting as a visual talking point for school children to learn about the past.

Mrs Wylie also crocheted a wonderful Halloween decoration and surprised her neighbours with a spooky design.

The 41-year-old, who has been crocheting for 11 years, added: “This is just the start!”

The mum from Claydon is hoping to reuse, recycle and add lots of extras each Christmas.

She said: “I'm having a little break from crochet ... my hands will be wrapping rather than hooking.

“But then it's full steam ahead, working on Valentine's Day post box topper.”
