An Ipswich home care service said it is proud to help its users “live their best life” after being rated ‘Good’ at its latest Care Quality Commission inspection (CQC).

Inspectors visited Orwell Central Supported Living Domiciliary Care Service, based in London Road, on November 23 and 30, and December 7 and 15.

The service is run by Orwell Housing Association, and supports people with a learning disability, and those with autism, who are living in their own homes.

Inspectors rated the service ‘Good’ in all areas.

Users of the service told inspectors that staff members were “friendly, supportive and caring,” with one user saying: “I love them, they are my friends. They are kind and nice to me."

Inspectors were also impressed with the respectful way that staff treated service users.

The report said that: “Staff received equality and diversity training supporting them to treat people equally and fairly whilst recognising and respecting their individuality.

“Staff treated people as adults and did not demean them, they treated people appropriately.

Relatives also told inspectors that they were happy with the way in which their relatives were cared for.

One relative told inspectors: "I am involved. When I pick [family member] up, I see the staff then. They talk to me when we meet, and we sort anything or plan anything that's important."

Another told inspectors that their family member was “well cared for, staff provide a very good service and keep us informed.

“There are no issues.”

Andrew Regent is the supported housing and care manager at Orwell Housing Association.

He said: “Our services at Avalon Court, Colchester Road, and Woodbridge were inspected by the CQC before Christmas and have been rated as good in all areas.

“Having the good rating is brilliant news, demonstrating our commitment to providing safe, well-led services but the positive comments in the report about people feeling safe, supported, and cared for are even better.

“We are very proud of our team who work incredibly hard to support our customers to develop the skills, confidence, and ability to live their best life.”
