A multi-million-pound hotel which aims to boost Ipswich's economy will open this Easter, the owner has confirmed.
Travelodge's new 99-room hotel near Ipswich Town Football Club stadium in Russell Road has been under construction since January.
The works are being carried out by JW-G Construction with Ipswich-based firm Haydn Evans on-site as structural engineers.
At the beginning of November, Steve Sharp, the project manager, said that due to the ongoing constraints in the construction industry, they found themselves “under pressure to meet the programme dates”.
Shakila Ahmed, the Travelodge spokeswoman, said that they are "working around the clock” to get the fourth Ipswich Travelodge hotel ready for the Easter period.
She added: “Our three Ipswich hotels have traded strongly throughout 2023 and this new hotel will be a great addition to support the growing demand that we are seeing in Ipswich.
“We will soon start recruiting to build our hotel team to manage the new Ipswich Central Travelodge.”
The owners will be looking to fill 28 positions. Information for the roles is available here.
The Travelodge spokeswoman said: “Ipswich Central Travelodge will be our first hotel in Ipswich and Suffolk to feature our new budget-luxe premium look and feel design.
“This is our most radical transformation to date and has been created in response to ever-increasing expectations from customers.
“Britain is now a nation of budget travellers, with more of us choosing to stay in budget hotels than any other hotel type and thoughtful, stylish design and homely touches really matter in today’s world when staying away for business or leisure.
"Ipswich Central Travelodge is centrally located and will help attract new business and leisure visitors to the area, which is great news for the local economy.
“Research shows that Travelodge customers will spend on average double their room rate with local businesses during their stay, which collectively is an annual multi-million boost into the Ipswich economy.”
