An Ipswich sport and music bar is currently undergoing a £40,000 refurbishment to make the place more up-to-date.

The Gardeners Arms in Fore Hamlet, Ipswich, will reopen on Saturday, January 14, with updated features including bigger TV screens, a new music stage in a different location and a supreme pool table.

The music and sports bar closed on January 2, with the owners of The Gardeners Arms waiting until they had more money to be able to put into the refurbishment.

The refurbishment is said to have cost anywhere between £30,000 and £40,000.

Nicola Emerick, manager of The Gardeners Arms said: "Where there used to be a stage, it was tucked around the corner and we felt like that wasn't the best location as not everyone could see it, so we have centralised the stage.

"We have also got bigger screens because ours over time have gotten smaller with more and more people having bigger screens at home.

"We are making a new cosy area with soft furnishings, and we are getting a chef in so we will have a whole new menu."

The toilets at The Gardeners Arms are also being refurbished.

The pub, reopening on Saturday, also plans to start doing Student Mondays, which will have an additional feature called the Drink Exchange.

On Saturday, customers are able to try this new feature which is unique to The Gardeners Arms, being the only provider of the service in Ipswich.

The drink exchange works similarly to the stock exchange through a link to the TV, whereby popular drinks rise in price, with those less favourable dropping in price, and people only have a few minutes to capitalise on this price change.

Nicola said: "Because we have bought this service through the developers, no one else in the area can buy it because they only sell to one venue in a particular place.

"I think it will be really quite cool."

Other renovations include smartening the windows up, new signage that looks more modern and a supreme pool table, which is a higher-quality pool table compared to their previous one and others in the area.
