The principal of a college in Ipswich has decided to "step back" from her role, leaving a new senior leadership team to replace her.

Early in January, in a message to all staff at Suffolk New College, principal Viv Gillespie said: "In the last few months, I have been in discussion with our chair of corporation, Stephen Pugh, regarding a potential retirement date in the short term future.

"However, the recent discovery of a medical concern means that I will be stepping back as principal."

Mrs Gillespie leaves the college after over seven years as principal, and recently oversaw the college's turnround with Ofsted, going from 'Requires Improvement' to 'Good'.
