Thousands of households in Suffolk will get a share of cold weather payments after the county was battered by sub-zero temperatures.

The IP24-28 postcodes, which covers towns like Mildenhall, Brandon, and Thetford are eligible to receive the £50 payment.

Thos living in IP1-23 and IP29-33 which covers areas like Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Hadleigh will be eligible to receive the £25 payment.

Those eligible will receive the payment for each seven-day period of very cold weather and the scheme runs until March 31.

People who may be eligible for cold weather payments are those who get pension credit, income support, income-based jobseeker's allowance, income-related employment, support allowance or universal credit and support for mortgage interest.

People do not need to claim - if you are eligible for the payment the money will be paid automatically.

Cold weather payments are not the same as winter fuel payments - which eligible people get towards their heating bills.
