Plans have been submitted to create a new 18-space staff car park at Ipswich Hospital.

If approved by Ipswich Borough Council, the proposals would see the demolition of an existing builders yard in Lattice Avenue to make way for the site.

It is understood staff using the car park will be expected to pay a small percentage per day based on their salary.

For a registered nurse, this would be 54 pence per day.

Paul Fenton, director of estates and facilities at East Suffolk and North East Essex NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Ipswich Hospital, said: "The planning application is to provide a further 18 car parking spaces for our staff who need to park on the hospital site.

"While we encourage our staff to user greener methods of travel where possible, such as the Park and Ride, we recognise there are situations where they may need to park close to the hospital and we do our best to provide access where we can."
