A popular Suffolk cafe and bistro has announced it will be closing its doors later this month.

The Angel in Needham Market will shut to customers on Saturday, February 25.

The venue was named among the best eateries in the world in 2021, when it was granted a Travellers' Choice Award on TripAdvisor.

The award placed the cafe among the best 10% in the world for their customer reviews.

Marc Rogers and partner Hannah Dent, who run the restaurant on High Street, shared the news of the closure "with great sadness" and say they are looking for new premises in the area.

The closure is due to faults with the building, which was found unfit for use, leading the landlord to decide on a change of plan.

Marc Rogers, who set up the bistro in 2019, said: "We are looking for new premises, but everything is listed and it is hard to find anything that would work.

"We are really overwhelmed about how many comments we have had on Facebook about the closure.

"I started this as a bistro three-and-a-half years ago and it has become a really good business and such a big part of the community.

"We have been really touched by how everyone has reacted and commented. We are so appreciative.

"We hope we can open some where close by. People will miss us. We have built up a reputation.

"We have only survived Covid because of the guys who supported us and spent their hard-earned money here.

"We hate to let them down."

In a post on the bistro's Facebook page, they wrote that it is with "great sadness and a very heavy heart" that the closure is announced, and thanked the customers "for helping to make a dream a reality".

The Angel's closure comes after a number of Suffolk pubs have closed in recent weeks, including The Swan in Monks Eleigh, The Bunbury Arms at Great Barton, and The Railway Tavern in Saxmundham.
