Ipswich residents will soon have a chance to take part in a wide range of free activities that will be happening across the town.

The first Ipswich Weekender of the year will take place between Friday, March 10 and the following Sunday.

The activities for children and adults will vary from a free mobile climbing wall and caving unit, music, arts and crafts to a themed guided tour and live music.

Ancient House will open its doors with 30 small businesses taking over the currently unoccupied unit.

Christchurch Mansion will be brought to life as guided tours will be on offer – with the guides dressing up in full costume.

Brighten The Corners, the only paid ticketed event, will present two evenings of live music, and Three Wise Monkeys will be hosting live music and outdoor bar at the end of Lloyds Avenue.

Sophie Connelly, Ipswich Borough Council portfolio holder for culture and customers, said: “Ipswich Weekender events offer a range of fun and engaging activities, bringing people together to enjoy our town.

“Why not try dancing on the Cornhill with the Ipswich School of Dancing, enjoy listening to music with friends around Lloyds Avenue or join community party in St Nicholas Street?

“These events offer a celebration of dance, music and food that everyone can enjoy in the heart of Ipswich.”

Miranda Acres, the co-founder of the Ancient House Project, added: "We took part in the Welcome Back Ipswich Weekend last year and it was a huge success, with around 2,400 people visiting us over the two days, and so we're hugely excited about this Ipswich Weekender.

“Come and join us - shop, eat, drink and just enjoy this incredible, heritage building ... it's a gem!”
