Six Suffolk men are taking on the challenge of climbing the three tallest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales.

Tom Hitchcock and five of his friends are set to face the Three Peaks Challenge towards the end of March.

The challenge includes climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Mount Snowdon in Wales, and they will be climbing one mountain a day.

Mr Hitchcock said: "I'm actually really looking forward to doing it.

"I know it will be hard, and I know we are going to be fairly worn out by the time we finish, but I think it will be worth it."

Mr Hitchcock will be joined by friends, Peter, Duncan, Simon, Paul and John, who are all from various areas in Suffolk, including Cornard and Claydon.

The group of men, who are aged between 34 and 55, said they had been advised to train on the Suffolk hills, and do regular long walks to get their fitness up.

They are doing this in memory of Mr Hitchcock's father, Matthew Hitchcock, who passed away from Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in 2020.

Mr Hitchcock said: "My father enjoyed walking.

"We used to do Snowdon when I was younger and he has climbed other mountain ranges, so I thought what better way of raising money than doing this challenge."

They are raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, and have so far raised almost £2,400.

Mr Hitchcock added: "I am very shocked at how quickly that money has been raised.

"It was just over £1,000 in the first month and that was pleasantly shocking.

"Now we have hit the target, I'd quite like to try and obliterate it."

The group will be undertaking this challenge on March 24, 25 and 26.
