A restaurant worker who was obsessed with his boss and stabbed her boyfriend three times is among those jailed in Suffolk this week.
Alexander Cornell
Alexander Cornell was jailed for 20 years after he became obsessed with his boss and stabbed her boyfriend three times in a Bury St Edmunds car park.
Sentencing 29-year-old Cornell for attempted murder, Judge Martyn Levett said he’d acted out of feelings of "resentment, jealousy and desire to remove his boss’s partner from the scene to clear the path for him to shower her with affection.”
Cornell, of Britannia Road, Ipswich, denied attempting to murder Blazej Piortowski on July 4 last year at the Parkway car park in Bury St Edmunds but was found guilty by a jury by a 10-2 majority verdict on January 23 after a trial.
He had previously admitted wounding Mr Piotrowski with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm, having a knife in a public place and having weapons in his home.
Mihaita Ciuraru
Mihaita Ciuraru was jailed for 40 months after he attacked a victim with a long metal pole outside a convenience store.
Ciuraru, of St John's Road, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent at Ipswich Crown Court.
The victim, a 44-year-old man who was known to Ciuraru, went to a convenience shop near Stoke Bridge.
As he walked out of the shop, he was attacked by Ciuraru, who was wielding a metre-long metal pole, from behind.
The victim was hit twice in the head and on his body before Ciuraru dropped the pole and ran back over Stoke Bridge into the town centre.
The victim suffered serious head injuries that required 12 stitches and hospital treatment.
Ciuraru was arrested on January 7 this year and subsequently charged after fleeing the country to Germany.
JJ Goodrum and Jordan Smith
JJ Goodrum and Jordan Smith were jailed for a total of six years after they tried to rob a vulnerable man in Stowmarket town centre.
During the late night incident in the town’s High Street, Goodrum ordered the victim to hand over his money and was caught on CCTV aiming a “powerful” kick at his face and rifling through his bag, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
Meanwhile his co-defendant Smith also went through the victim’s bag and put his hand over his mouth to stop him shouting for help.
The men ran off empty handed, leaving the victim with injuries including a black eye and cuts and bruises on his hands and knees.
Goodrum, 29, of Goldsmith Road in Ipswich, and Smith, 32, of no fixed address, admitted attempted robbery overnight on August 31 and September 1 last year and they also each admitted being in breach of a suspended sentence order.
