A bottle of champagne signed by Labour leader Keir Starmer is one of a number of items to go under the hammer at this year's Ipswich Mayor's Charity Ball.

The black-tie event, which is the first since 2019, will take place this Saturday, on March 18, at the Town Hall.

The Starmer-signed bottle of champagne will be auctioned alongside prizes including a mystery lot donated by Ed Sheeran, signed Ipswich Town Football Club memorabilia and a box for 10 at Colchester United.

Mayor John Cook said: "Ipswich based businesses have been really generous, and I expect the ball to raise thousands of pounds to support Emmaus' work for local people at risk of homelessness.

All proceeds raised at this year's event will be donated to homeless charity Emmaus Suffolk.

"This will be the first ball in four years, with 2020's event being cancelled due to covid restrictions.

"We're rebuilding and it looks like we've already sold more tickets than in 2019.

"I can guarantee people a great night out."

Tickets are £65 each or £600 for a table of ten, and can be booked via the Ipswich Theatres website.
