A "bananas" £6,500 donation has helped an Ipswich woman to ensure she can pay for her dog's care after lost his ability to walk.

Abbie Cullingford, the owner of two dachshunds, Winnie and Alan, has said she was "completely blown away" when she saw the donation on her GoFundMe page.

The paramedic described her pets as her entire life and said she became concerned about Alan on March 6 and noticed he seemed "a bit wobbly".

Within 24 hours Alan had lost the use of his back legs and was clearly getting worse as a result of a severe disc prolapse.

He needed urgent surgery with Abbie seeking help due to her pet insurance only covering up to £3,000 per condition and the total treatment in excess of £8,000.

Abbie said: "Half of me is thinking is it a scam?

"I woke up and saw the donation that was sent in at around one in the morning, and it has completely blown me away.

"It's bananas."

The donation is going towards the treatment of Alan, who has undergone an MRI scan and urgent surgery, after suffering a severe disc prolapse.

The four year old dachshund has already had surgery which went well and is currently at the vet in recovery.

The 41-year-old from Ipswich said: "This fundraiser was set up as I needed to do whatever was needed to cover those costs.

"Her treatment is so expensive, around £8,000 in total, and anything that is left over I will give to charities and dogs going through a similar thing.

"I have been through a lot in the last couple of years.

"My dogs mean the world to me, without them, I am not sure how I would have made it through this time.

"I'm obsessed if I am honest, I am totally mad about them.

"If I could I would have loads but obviously that isn't a viable option."
