A Just Stop Oil protest saw supporters of the environmental group take part in a 'go slow' march through the town centre today.

PhD student Rachel Bosler, 27, said she was protesting to demand that the government immediately stop all new licensing of fossil fuels.

"Our British government is continuing to license new oil and gas, even though the UN, the international energy agency and all the world's top scientists have said it is a death sentence," said Ms Bosler.

"It's a death sentence for us here in the UK and for people all over the world."

Ahead of the protest, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said: “We’re making appropriate operational arrangements to facilitate a peaceful protest whilst minimising any potential disruption to the public.

“The right to peaceful protest is key part of any democracy while balancing it with the rights of others and keeping the public safe.

"If criminal offences are identified, we will take appropriate action."
