Tributes have been paid to a “young at heart” mum-of-two and grandmother from Ipswich.

Lornette ‘Lolly’ Jennifer Claxton died at the age of 66 at St Elizabeth Hospice on March 14.

Her daughter, Shakyra Claxton, said the whole family is incredibly thankful for the care that the staff from the hospice provided for her mum.

She added: “Our mum was passionate, determined and so young at heart.

“We will remember her most for her quick wit, her love for us, her children, Ché and Shakyra, and her granddaughter Marley.

“We will also remember her passion for music and how she loved to dance.

“It was only Christmas, and before that her birthday on November 26 that we were together as a family celebrating and dancing. And in such a short amount of time, she’s gone.”

Ms Claxton started to suffer from early semantic dementia in the last few years and was officially diagnosed in October 2022.

Her daughter said: “We were in the process of getting things in place for both ourselves and her, to support mum with what I had called ‘the new normal’ when she suddenly became very unwell.

“She was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma and we were prepared by the consultants and doctors at Ipswich Hospital for the worst.”

Shakyra added that the family spent “as much time as physically possible” with Ms Claxton, but it was extremely emotionally exhausting to see their loving mum and grandma passing away.

She said: “As a family, we cannot thank the staff at St Elizabeth Hospice enough for their overall care and compassion, and also the nurses and doctors on Somersham Ward, the cancer ward, at Ipswich hospital.”

The family opened online fundraising to give their mum the true send off she deserves.
