Plans for Ipswich's winter night shelter to offer year-round supported temporary accommodation have been approved by the Borough Council.

The service, which will be run by Selig Suffolk Trust, will provide affordable, high quality, self-catering, supported accommodation for eight adults.

The site is located at the junction of Civic Drive and St Matthew’s Street and it has been designed to empower residents to break the cycle of homelessness by securing employment before moving into private rented accommodation.

It will be monitored at all times, with senior members of staff from available on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The plans, which were submitted by Selig Suffolk Trust, read: "Since our shelter closed at the end of winter 2022, we have been working hard to adapt to local need, and to develop new services that will help to address the root causes of rough sleeping in Ipswich."

Funding to begin this project was granted by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Night Shelter Transformation Fund plus the Suffolk Giving Fund, Frank Jackson Foundation Fund, Denbury Charitable Fund, and the Suffolk Police & Crime Commissioner's Fund – all through Suffolk Community Foundation.
