Plans to extend the opening hours of a popular Ipswich bar to 4am are set to be discussed by the borough council this week.

The Moloko in Lion Street has applied to open from 11am to midnight on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 11am to 4am on Fridays and Saturdays.

The bar is currently open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, and closes at 10pm or earlier the rest of the week.

The application has also requested permission to play recorded music and serve alcohol from 11am to midnight from Sunday to Thursday and 11am to 4am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Bar manager Elvis Alika told this newspaper last year that the bar had made this application due to demand from customers.

"Come two o’clock, we still have customers," he said.

"We’ve seen in recent months that people want to carry on, and we have to kick them out because our licence doesn’t allow us to open past 2am.

"Hence why we wanted to extend the opening."
