"Teenage girls should be safe to spend time in our public spaces without fear of male violence," safety campaigners have said after three teenagers were sexually assaulted in an Ipswich park.

The incident, which saw the girls assaulted by four teenage boys, happened in Christchurch Park between 3.45pm and 4.15pm on Tuesday, April 4.

Issy Booth of Suffolk Rape Crisis said: "Suffolk Rape Crisis is disappointed to hear of another sexual assault in Ipswich.

"It’s important that all members of our community, including teenage girls, are safe to spend time in our public spaces without fear of male violence.

"Women deserve to take up space in our community, and SRC is committed to challenging the underlying attitudes that allow sexual violence to continue."

In February, a teenage girl was sexually assaulted in an alleyway between St Stephen's Church Lane and Upper Brook Street in the town centre.

In December, another Ipswich teenage girl was sexually assaulted on the same night as a Reclaim the Night protest.

"We would encourage any woman who has experienced sexual violence to seek support and look after their wellbeing, and here at Suffolk Rape Crisis we are able to provide emotional support if needed," added Miss Booth.

"You can contact us here or reach out to our Helpline (open Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm) on 0800 0850 520."

Alasdair Ross, Ipswich Borough Council's portfolio holder for community protection and health, said: "We are aware of an incident in an Ipswich park.
