A man who sexually assaulted a schoolgirl while on holiday in Suffolk and a man who attacked a stranger with an axe are among those put behind bars this week.
Michael Vinson
Registered sex offender Michael Vinson, 28, has been jailed for 26 months after he breached the terms of a suspended prison sentence order a few weeks after it was made.
Vinson was given a two year jail term suspended for two years on June 16 last year after he had conversations over a period of a month with an undercover police officer who said he had two nieces aged seven and ten.
Vinson, of Axial Close, Colchester, pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court last year to attempting to arrange or facilitate the commission of a child sex offence in 2021.
He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for ten years and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for the same period.
On Thursday Vinson admitted breaching the suspended sentence order by breaching the sexual harm prevention order and the sex offenders’ registration requirements.
David Perry
David Perry, of St Margarets Place, Stradishall, near Newmarket, was jailed for 24 years for attempted murder after attacking a stranger in a pub with an axe.
The 40-year-old had denied attempted murder but admitted possession of an offensive weapon and wounding the victim with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The attack happened on March 19 last year, when Perry had been drinking alone at The Bell hotel in Clare, near Sudbury, before the victim came in with two friends.
After an argument, Perry was ejected from the pub but returned with an axe, that he claimed he was using as a "deterrent".
He was caught on CCTV charging at the stranger with the weapon and planting the blade on his head.
The victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with head injuries and underwent surgery.
James Rhind
James Rhind was jailed for 32 months after he sexually assaulted a schoolgirl while he was on holiday in Suffolk when he was 17.
The 23-year-old, of Valley Drive, Durham, was convicted by majority verdicts by a jury after a trial at Ipswich Crown Court in January of sexually assaulting a child under 13 by penetration and sexual activity with a child.
He had denied the charges and sentence was adjourned until Monday
In addition to being jailed Rhind, of Valley Drive, Durham, was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for ten years and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
During his trial it was claimed that Rhind, who had been on holiday in Walberswick, offered to show the nine-year-old victim “a cool spot” that would feel “really good” if it was rubbed.
Rhind later asked the girl again if she would like him to show her how to do it, and then undid her shorts.
The court heard that Rhind, who has no previous convictions, had identified as a woman since 2021 and had a number of issues.

Five members of an Ipswich gang were sentenced for a total of 19 years related to two violent incidents, public order offences, and drug dealing in the town.
On Friday, the court heard one member of the J Block, gang stabbed a member of a rival gang in the back outside the Cock and Pye pub in Upper Brook Street in June last year, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
The victim was taken to hospital with injuries including a punctured lung which were initially considered to be life threatening but the following day he had discharged himself from hospital against medical advice and refused to co-operate with the police investigation, said Duncan O’Donnell, prosecuting.
A few weeks later on August 15 last year there was another violent incident at Maple Park near Victoria Street in Ipswich.
Before the court were: Gerson Assuncao, 22, of Burrell Road, Ipswich; Matas Vaitekunas, 20, of Victoria Street, Ipswich; Bobby Walters, 26, of Victoria Street, Ipswich; Michael Crumlish, 27, of Southgreen Gardens, Clacton-on-Sea; Ethan Smith, 22, of Cardiff Avenue, Ipswich.
There were also three 17-year-olds: Mekhi Ebanks, Daniel Kovalkov and Laurynas Talacka.
Assuncao was sentenced to a total of five years and 10 months in custody, Ebanks to three years, Kovalkov to 42 months, Smith to 44 months and Vaitekunas to three years.
