The chairman of a local Ipswich football club has voiced his pride after a "historic" season which saw the team achieve back-to-back promotions.

Having secured the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division last weekend,  Ipswich Wanderers will play in the North Division of the Isthmian League next season - a feat never before achieved by the club.

"At any level of football, to win back-to-back League titles, and with it two promotions are an achievement that we are very proud," said the club's chairman, Stephen Boyle.

"It's also historic for the town of Ipswich to have a club operating at that level of the non-league system.

"It's been an incredible season.

"The management, coaches and players deserve huge credit."

Wanderers' achievement has coincided with success at Portman Road - with Ipswich Town now looking to be one of the favourites to secure promotion to the Championship.

"There's a real buzz about the town right now, and so many parallels between the IWFC & ITFC stories," said Mr Boyle.

"Deep down we are all ITFC fans.

"Ipswich is a pure football town, and our joint successes can drive both clubs on.

The 2021-22 season saw Wanderers won the Division One South title and earned promotion to the Premier Division.

And the club is now looking to build on this latest success by aiming to go even further up the football pyramid.

"We're a very ambitious club," said Mr Boyle.

"And we're now just two steps off the National League level.

"How far we can go however depends as much with what we can achieve off the pitch, as on it.

"Inevitably, there are challenges with ground grading and funding a club as you go up through the levels.

"We need supporters to keep showing up in their hundreds, we need more, more volunteers and more sponsors.

"The message is clear. Come and join our journey and be part of something special.

"There's no upper ceiling, none."
