Charity champions who make Ipswich a better place to live and work have been invited to a special event at Downing Street.
Tom Hunt, MP for Ipswich, welcomed the members of BSC Multicultural Services, Boshor Ali and Mahbub Alam Shamim, to the reception hosted by Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP.
The event organised by the Prime Minister’s office celebrated those who make constituencies across the country a better place to live and work.
MPs were invited to nominate a local charity champion, with MP Hunt choosing an Ipswich charity, BSC Multicultural Services.
BSC Multicultural makes a great positive difference across the town by, among others, providing food parcels to some of the most vulnerable throughout the pandemic.
The charity also runs a highly successful befriending scheme to support elderly residents struggling with loneliness and provides an advice service.
Tom Hunt MP said that he was "delighted" to welcome Boshor and Shami to Number 10.
He added: "As an ambassador for BSC Multicultural Services, I’ve seen close at hand the positive difference the charity makes supporting some of the most vulnerable across the town.
"From providing food parcels to some of the most vulnerable throughout the pandemic, to running a very successful befriending scheme to support elderly residents struggling with loneliness and their advice service they have been a lifeline to so many time and time again.
"In addition to BSC Multicultural Services, both Boshor and Shami are involved in further charitable work.
"I’ve been with Boshor before in rural Bangladesh, seeing the work he carries out supporting people living in extreme deprivation through his charity, the Al Tazid foundation.
"This was a great event with the Minister for Charities that allowed us to thank a number of volunteers with local charities from across the country for the invaluable work they carry out."
