Family, friends and strangers alike joined together in Ipswich today to watch the Coronation of King Charles III on the big screen.

Sitting with her family, Juliet Bruce-Browne, 79, said: "I just love Charles.

"I've loved him since he was a child, I saw him grow up."

Her family were also part of the crowd of over 100 people who watched the Queen's funeral in the same place in September.

Coco Bruce-Browne, 60, said: "This is a moment in history that we have to be part of.

"Coming to the Cornhill, we're representing our town as well.

"We have something that a lot of other countries don't have - a long, long history of the monarchy."

Ipswich mum Hayley Rooney, 47, was sitting watching the King's Coronation with her eight-year-old son Dylan.

"It's really exciting," said Ms Rooney.

"We love all the pomp and ceremony."

Complete with a golden crown and Pikachu face paint, Dylan added that he'd had an assembly at school in preparation for the big day.

Sue Wozniak, 64, originally attended the Queen's funeral at the Cornhill because her television was broken, but loved the atmosphere so much that she decided to come again for the Coronation. 

"I'm very patriotic and I enjoy the history behind it," she said.

"I'll be watching the repeats at home afterwards but wanted to be with everyone waving my flags today."

John and Sharon Brand, 71, said they attended to help their grandson soak up the atmosphere.

While concentrating on eating his "yummy" ice cream, Kenny, 7, said his favourite part of the day's celebrations was "all the gold".

With just ten days left of his term, Ipswich Mayor John Cook praised the events team at Ipswich Borough Council for "always giving people who want to come together the chance to celebrate as a community."
