A school's women's team, coached by a former Ipswich Town player, are celebrating after winning a national tournament – rounding off an amazing season by completing the treble.

St Joseph's College's under-18 women's football team first won the Independent School's Football Association trophy, before then picking up the Suffolk Schools County Cup, and finishing with the English School's Football Association trophy.

Winning the treble is an unheard-of achievement in women's college football.

The English School's trophy final was streamed live online and was held at a Championship club's ground, Stoke City's Bet365 Stadium.

Students at St Joseph's College were also able to join in the success by watching the stream and supporting the women as they won 3-0 against Sandwell College, based in the West Midlands.

The team's coach Paige Shorten has been lucky enough to win the tournament as both a player in 2008, and now as a coach.

She also coaches the England under-15 girls' teams.

She said: "We have got girls who have played this year, who have also had to manage their football, education, and representing clubs from around East Anglia such as Ipswich Town, Cambridge City and Hashtag United.

"The girls have had exposure and opportunities this season from highs to lows, but their determination and resilience to achieve what they have is a credit to them.

"We have had some players who have gone through ACL injuries and some it's their first time playing for the college, ranging from 16 to 18, and it's just such a great achievement from them."

Another of the coaches for the team is former Ipswich Town midfielder, Cole Skuse, who has been working alongside his playing career to share his experience and knowledge, which helped them for an occasion such as the national final.

The team were celebrated in a morning assembly, receiving a standing ovation from all in attendance.
