A former Ipswich Town midfielder has taken up his second top job of the week after being announced as head football coach at a prestigious Ipswich school.

St Joseph’s College in Belstead Road has announced that Cole Skuse will be joining its staff in the new academic year.

This announcement come hot off the news that Mr Skuse had become the new manager at Bury Town after being released from Colchester United.

In an exclusive interview given to the EADT's Stuart Watson, Mr Skuse said that he had “never, ever” considered entering management before now.

“Bury’s a brilliant club though,” he said. “The infrastructure is great from the grassroots upwards. They do things properly, they never stretch beyond their means, they are always getting good crowds, the stadium’s nice and they’ve got good people involved.

“Big Mick (McCarthy) always used to say ‘never get too high with the highs and never get too low with the lows’. I think that will be me."

Mr Skuse will be dividing his time between Bury Town and St Joseph's, once he takes up the role as head football coach in September. He has previously worked part-time at the school.

Anthony O’Riordan is the director of sport at St Joseph’s.

He said: “St Joseph’s College wants to acknowledge the efforts Mr Skuse has gone to, balancing the demands of professional football both at partners ITFC and more recently Colchester United, whilst devoting every afternoon to coaching the girls and boys of St Joseph’s College.

“We have invested a significant amount of energy in refocusing our performance sport, physical education and health & wellbeing provision. This is an outstanding appointment for our sport programme and students, and underpins our ambition to be the premier school for sport and physical education in the east of England.

“I cannot wait to see Cole grow into this full-time role.”
