This video captures the scale of the damage caused by a huge blaze that broke out a gym and spa outside Ipswich.

A huge fire engulfed the swimming pool part of Riverhills spa at about 12.20am on Friday.

Two fire engines were spotted going into the premises at about 9.30am on Friday and left 20 minutes later.

The facility's staff was not able to reveal any new updates at the time.

At its height, 17 crews from across Suffolk fought the blaze which is believed to have started in the swimming pool area.

About a quarter of the building has been destroyed but crews managed to save the main part of the property.

Police and ambulance crews were also called to the scene, but no casualties have been reported.

On Facebook, Riverhills has announced that it will be closed today.

The full statement reads: “As a result Riverhills will be closed today (Friday 23rd June) to all members and guests while we gain access to the building and assess the damage.

“We will of course update you once we have further information but please understand that we currently have no phone systems or internet access on site.

“We are extremely grateful to the work of Suffolk Fire and Rescue and the other emergency teams that responded to this incident and brought the fire under control.

“We thank you in advance for your understanding and we will update further as soon as we are able.”

Salvation Army provided refreshments for the fire crew dealing with the fire.
