Two people have appeared in court accused of murdering a two-year-old whose body was found in an Ipswich temporary housing unit last week.

Scott Jeff, 22, and Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, also 22, both of no fixed address and formerly of Bedfordshire, appeared at Suffolk Magistrates Court and were remanded to appear at Ipswich Crown Court.

They were charged with the murder of Gleason-Mitchell's daughter - Isabella Wheildon.

The pair have been remanded into custody and the next hearing will take place on Monday, October 9.

Officers were called to Sidegate Lane Temporary Housing Unit just before midday on Friday, June 30.

Upon entering, they discovered the body of a two-year-old girl.

In the early hours of Saturday, July 1, Jeff and Gleason-Mitchell were arrested in Bury St Edmunds and taken to Martlesham police investigation centre for questioning.

Detectives were given additional time to question the suspects on Sunday, July 2 and a second application for warrants of further detention was made on Monday, July 3.

Suffolk Constabulary later charged Jeff and Gleason-Mitchell with murder. 

An initial Home Office post-mortem examination was conducted, but further tests are required and formal identification procedures had not yet taken place.
