From famous actors to one of the world's biggest artists, Suffolk is home to a number of celebrities. 

Suffolk is a hotbed for famous faces – most recently, Grils Aloud singer and X Factor judge Cheryl was spotted celebrating her 40th birthday in the area

But some celebrities are lucky enough to call this county their home. 

Here are five famous people that grew up in Suffolk. 

1. Ipswich - Ralph Fiennes 

The multi-award-winning actor was born in Ipswich in 1962 and was brought up in the area with five siblings.

Fiennes also starred in the hit movie The Dig which took the world by storm.

It told the remarkable story of how one Suffolk man and his team of archaeologists uncovered perhaps the most important discovery in helping us understand more about the Anglo-Saxon era at Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge.

2. Bures - Alex Albon 

Williams Formula One driver Alex Albon grew up in Bures on the Suffolk-Essex border but was educated at Ipswich School.

He signed for Red Bull's junior team aged 12 in 2008 and made his debut in F1 for Toro Rosso in 2019.

3. Framlingham - Ed Sheeran 

Any list of famous people from Suffolk would be remiss to exclude Ed Sheeran.

Sheeran is one of the world's biggest artists and he moved to Framlingham when he was a boy and went to Thomas Mills High School in the town.

The Shape of You singer started off by singing in a number of Ipswich pubs and streets and worked his way up to selling out stadium tours. 

He even came back to Ipswich in 2019 and performed in front of a packed out Chantry Park to end his tour and surprised the town once again last year with a performance on the town hall steps.

4. Woodbridge - Charlie Simpson 

The Busted lead singer grew up in Woodbridge and attended Framlingham College's pre-school Brandeston Hall. 

In 2004 Simpson brought his band back to Suffolk for a sell-out gig at Christchurch Park

5. Bury St Edmunds - Becky Jago

The ITV Anglia presenter was born and grew up in Bury St Edmunds.

The 47-year-old attended Stowmarket High School and is a big Ipswich Town supporter.
