Friends and family will come together in Kesgrave in September to remember their friend and brother who would always fight for the underdog.

Ben Meader was born in Greenwich, but had been living in Ipswich for the past 18 years.

His sister, Suzie Church, explained that Ben had been taken unwell shortly after Christmas two years ago.

Tests confirmed that he had a rare form of cancer, with a mass behind his heart.

Sadly, at the beginning of this year, doctors informed the 25-year-old that chemotherapy was not working and that the mass had increased in size.

Ben was transferred to the Arthur Ranks Hospice, where he died on May 16.

Ben was, according to his close friend Danni Davis, a team player, a hard worker and a fiercely passionate person.

“Ben was my best friend,” she said. “He felt a strong sense of doing things right and would defend the underdog in every way he could.

“He was a lover not a fighter, but he fought his battle against cancer hard. He didn’t let his illness take away from his dreams and made sure that he protected his loved ones from his pain and suffering.

"He was, and always will be, the greatest man I know. He taught me how love and kindness will always prevail even in the hardest times.”

Ben’s friends and family have organised a memorial car and bike show in Ben’s memory, in tribute to his love of cars.

The event will take place on Sunday, September 24 at the Suffolk Aviation Heritage Museum.

Danni continued: "Ben will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and those who never got to know him will feel the impact of his spirit through car events we hold in Ben’s name. His memory will live on.”

Ben’s friends and family are raising funds for the Arthur Ranks Hospice Charity, as well as the Teenage Cancer Trust.
