An Ipswich care home has said it is looking to improve after it was lifted out of special measures.

Elton Park Care Home in Hadleigh Road was recently rated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as 'requires improvement’.

In 2022 the home, previously known as Beech Lawn, was placed in special measures after being rated 'inadequate' for both safety and leadership.

Employees have been working hard since then to improve the service, the report said, with staff now rated ‘good’ for effectiveness, care and responsibility.

The safety and leadership of the home still need to be improved, the report said.

The assessment found that "improvements had been made in the provision of staff training, and these were ongoing".

It added: "A programme of redecoration was being undertaken. The service was visibly clean and infection procedures followed.

"People were supported to have visitors, which reduced the risks of isolation."

The report continues: "At this inspection, we found improvements had been made and the provider was no longer in breach of regulations.

"The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions.

"Some aspects of the service were not always safe, and there was limited assurance about safety. There was an increased risk that people could be harmed."

The inspection revealed that the residents are supported and treated with dignity and respect.

They are also encouraged to eat healthy food and drink lots of water.

A spokesman for Elton Park said: "We worked closely with the Suffolk Safeguarding team and service provider team to ensure all concerns were addressed.

"We brought over an experienced manager from our sister home – Sunrise Nursing Home in Felixstowe – to implement the same processes and best practices in that home.

"We also increased staffing to satisfy not only Suffolk service provider teams but also CQC, invested in renovating all the rooms and retraining all staff.

"We invested in an activities coordinator to make residents' day more fulfilling.

"We understand the only reason we got ‘needs improvements’ rating in the leadership area is that the manager hasn’t been in role for over six months.

"Our processes are all compliant but need time to be sustained."
