A 57-year-old man from Ipswich has been issued with a Sexual Risk Order (SRO) - the first of its kind to be made in the county under new laws.

Gavin Bultitude was issued with the order under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022, following an investigation by Suffolk police detectives.

Bultitude appeared before Suffolk Magistrates' Court in Ipswich on Wednesday, August 2, where he was made the subject of the order for five years.

Under the terms of the order, there are restrictions on his use of the internet, computer software and contact with children.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said: "Suffolk police will look to routinely utilise the provision of SROs in cases where the evidential threshold is not met to achieve the criminal prosecution of offenders, ensuring that all the powers at the disposal of officers are being used to safeguard members of the public."
