A 10-year-old environmentalist from Ipswich has decided to spend some of his summer holiday picking litter around the town.

Zach Hindle invited his grandmother, Suzanne Hindle, to help him clear the area around the school he attends, Morland Primary School, and Orwell Country Park.

The youngster said of his environmental efforts: "I went litter picking to help the Earth and keep it clean. It felt really good."

Zach added that spending time with his grandmother during the litter pick made him very happy.

Mrs Hindle added: "I’m very proud of Zach.

"It was all his idea to do the litter pick. I only carried the rubbish bag.

"He wanted to do it to help keep the countryside clean and help save the planet.

"We’ve collected one full bag of rubbish.

"The sad thing we noticed is that over half of the litter was recyclable, and people just chucked it."
